WHAT I WISH I KNEW BEFORE
More than attributing my work-life freedom to my technology blog, there are certain universal lessons you'll deduct from it, especially if you’re a blogger.
my blog into a personal financing, money-making business, and helping millennials to achieve their financial goal.
And that is…
To start, I specialize in SEO from the very beginning. If I did, I might have written SEO-optimised articles from the get-go,
If I did, my aged posts would have stood a far better chance at ranking on Google earlier rather than competing with the various websites today.
If I did, I could have shaved off half the time I spent trying to form my other social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest,) and driving traffic to my blog.
You see, I’ve learned (the long way) that the simplest way to drive traffic to your website is when user intent matches what your articles are about. That’s achieved when users search on Google what they’re trying to find and your article answers their question.
As for social media, they exist primarily as an inspirational platform, thus click-through rates are more often than not but optimal.
WHAT IS SEO
But first, let’s mention SEO and what the large deal is about it.
If you see pages ranking on the primary few positions once you key during a certain search term on Google, that’s the results of SEO being done right.
SEO, which stands for program Optimization, is all about optimizing your site for search engines to assist them to recognize what your content is about and rank them on Google surely keywords.
Think of SEO as a bridge that links what you’re sharing with your audience . you'll have 1,000,000 articles, but without SEO, all those articles and therefore the valuable knowledge you’re sharing will just be buried within the many sites online.
WHY IS SEO SO IMPORTANT FOR YOUR BLOG
One study analyzed that over 25% of people in the world click the first google search result.
The study showed that the primary result that you simply see in Google Search has a mean click-through rate of 28.5%.
From the third result and below, the CTR decreases exponentially.
Thus, if you’re not ranking on the primary, second, or third result, the probabilities of getting your page clicked on are virtually zero.
In summary, the higher your article is ranking on Google, the greater your visibility, and therefore the more people will click on your website.
It’s all because of increasing my traffic and readers to my site through appearing at the highest of program result pages that I used to be ready to earn a passive income from blogging, all without selling one product or service!
WHY NOT JUST RUN ADS?
In this internet age, what users want now's to be told. they need to understand if they’re making the proper shopping choice. Between choosing between Adidas, Nike shoes, how will you opt which is sweet for running long distances? Does one check out who advertises better?
No. You Google reviews about them.
The users of today's world are now ignoring the ads. People are often guarded if they think that they're being sold to. Advertisements are not any longer as effective.
Moral of the story?
Education is the new marketing.
Your audience doesn't like being sold to. they want to educate you. Now that we’ve established that content is vital for your business, what if you’ve written many articles but none of them are seen by anyone, apart from the limited few that you simply obtrude to on your social platforms?
This is where SEO comes into play.
HOW YOU'LL GET RANKED ON GOOGLE FASTER
There are a few things that inherit play when it involves ranking your pages on search engines, but before we continue to the complexities of it, you ought to always keep these in mind whenever you would like to write down articles that rank:
Make Your article trustworthy so people can believe in you
Your page should provide an honest user experience
Your website should have backlinks (other websites linking to you)
Your article should be as trustworthy as possible
1. Your article should solve an issue
What I mean by answering an issue is that your articles should be something your audience is Googling about. So how does one determine what your audience is Googling?
The easiest and free way is to travel to Google search, A generic search term.
Google auto-populates longer-tail keywords that are 3 to five words long. This may offer you a thought on what other keywords your audience is searching that revolves around your core keyword.
Secondly, once you enter the search results page, there are sometimes Featured Snippets where it shows questions that “People also ask”. you'll use these inquiries to answer your audience and show your expert knowledge of the subject.
Of course, if you would like to travel more in-depth with keyword research, I highly recommend investing in a paid keyword research tool.
There are more professional tools like Ahrefs and SEMrush that you simply also can tap on. Of the 2 that I’ve used, I find Ahrefs far more user-friendly.
2. Your website should provide an honest user experience
This 2021, Google is treating user experience seriously. This includes the page load speed, time until the primary user interaction, mobile-friendliness, safe browsing, and therefore the use of HTTPS. to point out the extent of how it impacts your page, let’s take the effect of page load time on bounce rates.
According to Google,
If page load time increases from 1 second to three seconds, bounce rate increases by 32%
If page load time increases from 1 second to six seconds, bounce rate increases by 106%
Some samples of good page experience include:
- Making sure your ads aren't intrusive
- Your paragraphs are short enough for straightforward reading especially on mobile
- Your font text should be large enough so that readers have a simple time skimming through
- Having a table of contents so your readers skills to navigate through your posts
- A clean blog interface where you don’t have buttons overlapping one another
- A mobile-friendly site
- Removing any broken pages on your site
3. Your website should have backlinks
Firstly, what are backlinks and why is it important?
Backlinks are links that connect the two sites through a link from website a to website B.
According to Rivalmind, “Backlinks are so important for search engine optimization(SEO).
They’re important because they connect pages, creating a map for bots to seek out related content and rank them consistent with what their content is about.
That means, the more backlinks you've got from different websites, the more it tells Google that your site is an authoritative property in your material since you’re being trusted by these different websites that are linking to you. The more Google sees you as authoritative, the higher the likelihood Google goes to prioritize your content over the others and rank you at the highest of search engines.
While the overall rule of thumb is that the more backlinks you'll create for your site, the higher, it’s worth noting that not all backlinks are created equivalently. Some could be detrimental to your site’s health.
HOW TO GET A BACKLINK FROM OTHER SITES?
The first thing you have to do is always Strive for do-follow backlinks as no-follow backlinks won't expire link juice to your site regardless of how often it gets linked.
Backlinks from authoritative sites are worth quite low authority, Spammy sites. they're those that signal to Google that your site is credible.
Having relevant anchor texts also plays a role. For example, rather than hyperlinking the word “here“, the link would count far more if you were to use relevant texts to explain the link. As an example, if you’re linking to budget travel, then the anchor text should be “budget travel“.
There are some ways you'll create backlinks to your site, but most significantly, the foremost natural way of getting backlinks is to craft factual, informative, resourceful, data-driven, well-researched article pieces.
After all, articles that are useful for readers are those that get shared the foremost, not short, irrelevant content.
4. Your article should have trustworthy
Adding authoritative and trustworthy links on your post signals to look engines that the article is protected by reliable sources, thus improving your post’s credibility.
Some samples of authoritative links include studies, data-backed research, expert quotes, thought pieces from KOLs, etc, that you simply can include in your article.
